The government has included an additional MVR 1 billion in the Supplementary Budget for this year for the Thila Male' Bridge Project and Addu Road Development project.
The Supplementary Budget was submitted yesterday along with the Proposed State Budget for next year. The Supplementary Budget for this year comes as the Government anticipates that the budget set for this year would exceed MVR 5.8 billion.
The additional budget figures include MVR 924 million allocated for the Thila Male' Bridge project and another MVR 80.4 million set for the road project in the Southern City.
The Parliament had passed a budget of MVR 543.3 million for the Bridge project this year while it approved a budget of MVR 109.2 million for the Addu road project.
Both mega projects have been awarded to Afcons of India and in total both projects are expected to cost a staggering MVR 7.3 billion.
The Government had included MVR 792 million for the Thila Male Bridge project for this year and another MVR 442 million for Addu Development project.
