Maldives National Defence Force MNDF says it has searched a vast area via sea and air in its bid to find 28-year-old Mohamed Minhaj who is missing since the 5th of this month.

The youth was traveling aboard a launch along with another person and authorities have said that the other person was rescued from the rocky side of Feridhoo island. The other person has now been transferred to Male' for further treatment after initial treatment at the island's health center. It is believed that the launch they had been traveling aboard had capsized.

While the search for Minhaj was kicked off on the 6th of this month after his family had filed a missing person report, MNDF said today that its Dornier plane had covered an area of 750 square nautical miles. It further said that MNDF's coastguard ship Shaheed Ali and coastguard fast interceptor craft 'Hakuraa' has now searched an area of 270 square nautical miles.

MNDF revealed that Minhaj was last seen wearing a black long-sleeved T.shirt and blue jeans.

It urged members of the public to call the coastguard toll-free number 191, or 3395981, 3398898 or send Viber messages to 9931082 or fax 3391665 if they have any information about the lost youth.

While MNDF is conducting its search, Police are also looking for the missing individual and plan to search the Feridhoo rocky area by using divers.
