The Civil Court has scheduled a hearing for tomorrow in the case to stop the removal of trees from Ameenee Magu during its reconstruction.
The Court said that the hearing is set for 2 pm tomorrow and that it would be looking into issuing temporary injunction order as requested by the suiter.
The issue was taken to the Civil Court by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
He had hired the local law firm Shunana and Co to take the case to court and the law firm has now confirmed that the case had been filed at the Civil Court.
The law firm said that it was requesting to stop the removal of trees in Ameenee Magu as there are other alternative ways to carry out the road development without removing trees.
It added that it had requested to issue temporary injunction order.
The firm further said that the removal violates Articles 22, 23 (d) of the Constitution as well as the Climate Emergency Act and the Paris Agreement.
Reconstruction Ameenee Magu began last month under the 'Male Streetscaping project. State-owned corporation Road Development Corporation RDC is undertaking the project and it had been removing the tall trees on Ameenee Magu as part of the project.
