Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC has urged passengers of mini buses in Male' to take the exact change for bus fare
The Minibus service that was launched in Male' weeks ago would be charging its passengers starting tomorrow and each passenger would have to pay a fee of MVR 7 for a bus ride.
At a news conference held to give more information about the bus service, MTCC CEO Adam Azim said that those who wish to purchase their bus tickets via cash from the bus must bring the exact amount of MVR 7 as the bus conductor would not be able to provide change.
He said that passengers would have to drop their cash into a drop box and that the conductors would not be handling the cash and hence would be unable to provide change for passengers.
Azim said bus conductors would provide ticket stubs after the passenger makes the cash drop and these tickets were introduced to help elderly passengers who are unfriendly to technology.
MTCC has said that passengers would be able to buy bus tickets online and use QR scanning of tickets during bus rides. It said that tickets can be bought via the RTL website or RTL mobile application now available on both Apple and Google Play stores.
Even if bus fares would be taken starting tomorrow, MTCC maintained that individuals above 65 years of age, children below 3 years, persons with disabilities, and students in uniform can ride the bus free of charge.
