Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam says more than 56,000 people have traveled via the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service so far.
The Minister made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to officially launch Zone 1 of RTL in the harbor area of Dhidhdhoo Island in Haa Alifu Atoll.
Minister Aslam said that this administration plans develop the country by dividing it into zones and that transport was the backbone of this development.
He said that the government was warned that undertaking such a project would be risky but was always reassured that many would be using the RTL service for their travels.
The Minister said that out of the 41 islands in the RTL Zone 1, 56.238 people have now used the RTL ferry service.
Aslam further noted that in most countries, public transport was established and funded by their governments and that the government would ensure that the RTL service would be sustainable service.
He added that the RTL ferry services would revolutionalize the whole economy and touted as the biggest developmental change the country has ever witnessed.
