Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC has launched its mega new dredger aptly named 'Bodu Jarraafa' (Big Dredger) at a ceremony held last night.
The ceremony was held in Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo where MTCC also launched the commencement of the physical works of Dhaandhoo Land Reclamation Project.
Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam as well as CEO of MTCC Adam Azim along with other government officials and officials from the company participated in the ceremony.
MTCC said that the new dredger would be used in the Dhaandhoo land Reclamation project. It also said that this would be the first infrastructure project carried out by the new dredger.
The company further said that under the project, an area of 975,000 cubic meters of the lagoon would be reclaimed and that revetment would be installed for an area of 807 meters.
This project would cost MVR 186.64 million.
MTCC said that once the project is completed, a land area as big as Dhaandhoo it self and that it would be the first step in developing a modern Dhandhoo.
