Former Chief of Protocol Mohamed Ahmed passes away earlier today.
Sources have said that Mohamed Ahmed died after fighting a long-term illness and that he passed away in Male' earlier this morning. He was 72 years of age.
His funeral prayers were scheduled to be held today afternoon prayers.
Mohamed Ahmed had worked with Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid and former Foreign Minister Mohamed Hussain for a long period of time.
Along with working in diplomatic services, Mohamed Ahmed held management positions in the Immigration Department at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
In a condolence message, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said that he was deeply grieved to hear of the passing of former Chief of Protocol Mohamed Ahmed.
Minister Shahid said that as a pioneering Foreign Service Officer, his services will always be cherished.
