Maldives National Defense Force MNDF says its Coast Guard rescued over 400 people from sea accidents in the past year.

MNDF said this in a video message recounting the achievements of the armed forces in the past 2 years played at the official function held to mark the 130th anniversary of MNDF.

In the video, MNDF said that it had played a vital part in the humanitarian and rescue efforts across the country and especially on the sea.

MNDF said that in its vast operation to offer safety to those traveling via sea, last year it had helped victims of 194 accidents on the sea. MNDF further said that in these accidents the coast guard saved the lives of 471 individuals and prevented property damage too.

It also said that the MNDF had successfully conducted 16,921 medical evacuations in the last year. It added that MNDF used 25 sea ambulances, MNDF Dornier aircraft as well as 2 MNDF helicopters in these operations.

In terms of fire and rescue services, MNDF said its firefighters were actively involved in extinguishing more than 400 fire incidents as part of its civil defense work and that it had provided fire safety awareness to over 2000 people in the last year.

The video also listed down many of the ways the armed forces had enhanced its capabilities to better fight terrorism and other domestic security issues as well as marine safety and other areas of concern.
