Transport Ministry has mandated taxis to install dashcams during service hours.
This comes after the Ministry brought massive changes to the taxi regulation and gazetted it yesterday.
As per the new regulation, taxis are mandated to install cameras on their dashboard and record their fares during service hours. The new regulation also mandates taxi drivers to keep the dashcam recordings for at least 7 days.
The new changes to the regulation state that each vehicle used for taxing must display the rates for fares inside the vehicle.
It also states that taxis should be air-conditioned. If in the event that the air conditioner breaks down, the driver is obligated to inform his/her passenger before the fare begins.
The regulation says that the taxi must allow for ventilation if the air conditioner is broken.
The amended regulation has included a section for 'private hire' taxis. This section is applicable to those vehicles not registered at a taxi center but working under a Ministry-approved website or application.
