Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam says the government has no plans to give land plots in Male' to those who had migrated from the islands and registered on the city's housing registry.
The Minister said this while answering a question by the MP for Horafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem at the parliament today.
Saleem raised concerns saying that while male' residents have the opportunity to get free land plots, the same is not open for those on the city's housing registry.
He called on the government to change the recent housing scheme's conditions to allow these residents to also apply for land.
In his answer to this, Minister Aslam said that the government had decided to award land plots to Male' residents and that this opportunity would not be available to those who have migrated to the city and registered in the housing registry.
But the Minister said any sons and daughters such individual bore while living in Male' can apply for land plots.
Only permanent residents of Male' can apply for the 3000 land plots announced by the government and they must never have been registered elsewhere.
