Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says he would need MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail's assistance in his bid to change the governance system to a parliamentary system.

He said this at the press conference held at MDP Office today.

Nasheed said that the country's governance system can only be changed to a parliamentary system via a referendum vote. Nasheed further said that he had submitted the amendments that need to be brought to the country's constitution if the referendum supports a system change to MDP's congress.

The speaker added that he was confident that the amendment would be passed by Congress.

Nasheed noted that he would need support and assistance from Fayyaz in his work to change the governance system.

He praised the Economic Minister saying that Fayyaz was a hardworking and driven individual and that he would like to work alongside MDP's new chairperson.

He added that he would need the support of the public for his work to be successful.

Nasheed had recently expressed his regret about working against Fayyaz and had said that he would never stand against the Economic Minister in the future.
