The government has opened the application for 7,000 housing opportunities in the Greater Male' area, mainly for Male' residents.

At a ceremony held at the President's Office, Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam launched the 'Gedhoruverin Portal' made especially for those interested in applying for the latest housing opportunities.

This includes 3,000 land plots in Gulheefalhu and Hulhumale' and 4,000 flats in Hulhumale'.

The Housing Ministry had said that applicants interested in applying for both categories can use the portal.

'Binveriya Scheme'- Land plot scheme

Only Maldivians above the age of 18 years can apply for the land plots scheme dubbed 'Binveriya Scheme'. The applicant should also not have any land plots or a house larger than 600 sq feet registered to him/her in the Greater Male' Area.

The scheme also conditions that individuals who now own land plots or houses larger than 600 square feet must be willing to relinquish rights to these land plots or houses. The applicant should also not be a recipient of a social housing unit awarded by the Government and should also be willing to relinquish ownership of land plots inherited.

He or she should not have given or sold a state-given land plot to any other individual.

'Gedhoruveriya Scheme'- Flat scheme

Most of the conditions for the flat scheme remain the same as the land plot scheme with one glaring difference being that the main applicant must have been a Male' resident for the last 15 years. The scheme is also open to those who have been living in Male' for the last 15 years.

The scheme also states that the applicants must not be an individual who receives a monthly income of more than MVR 60,000.

The application deadline for both schemes is from 1 July to 30th September 2022.
