The Maldives has ranked 113th out of 180 on the Environmental Performance Index 2022.

Maldives scored an overall EPI score of 37.40 with a 9.00 increase in score over the last 10 years.

The Island nation scored an impressive 100 coming in the 1st rank for Ecosystem Services and ranked 7th in Fisheries.

For health, the Maldives came in 57th out of 180 with an EPI score of 48.50 and 40th for air quality.

While the current government is looking to revamp the administration's climate policies, the Maldives ranked 120th for Climate Policy with an EPI score of 33.50.

The Maldives performed exceptionally well compared to its peers, with the island nation ranked 3rd in South Asia, only Afghanistan, and Bhutan outperforming it.

As for small island developing states, the Maldives was ranked fourth for its EPI score.

The 2022 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) provides a data-driven summary of the state of sustainability around the world. Using 40 performance indicators across 11 issue categories, the EPI ranks 180 countries on climate change performance, environmental health, and ecosystem vitality.
