President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says he is confident that he would be able to win the 2023 Presidential election.

Speaking to the media today at his office, President Solih said the most important thing is to secure the election for MDP and that this would be most beneficial to the country.

President Solih said that the current administration has begun several projects that are closely related to the people and that these projects should not be halted in the coming years.

I can say with confidence that I would be able to win the 2023 presidential election with backing from a coalition. MDP cannot do this alone. MDP's congress will determine the candidate. I can only give the assurance that I would be able to secure the 2023 election.

President Solih also said that the best way to select a presidential candidate from MDP would be to hold a primary and that MDP would be acting on the party constitution.

While President Solih has stated his intent for the re-election, leader of MDP and former President Mohamed Nasheed has also said that he would be competing for the presidential candidate slot.
