Health Protection Agency HPA says more than 650 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the country during the first week of April.
The Agency said in its weekly update via Twitter that a total of 655 new cases were reported between 3rd April and 9th April and that they include 91 cases from the Greater Male' Area.
Last week most of the cases in the capital were reported on 4th April with 20 new cases reported that day.
HPA said that the new cases reported last week include 482 new cases from the inhabited island. In the further breakdown, HPA said that the highest number of cases from the islands were reported on the 6th of this month with it recording 102 new cases on that day.
The new cases have taken the total number of cases reported in the country to a staggering 178,313.
HPA also said that there were no deaths from COVID confirmed in the past week. But a total of 298 people have died from the pandemic in the Maldives since April 2020.
The Maldives has largely overcome the worst of the COVID pandemic with most of the vaccine-eligible population now vaccinated with all doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
