Islamic Ministry says the moon-sighting confirmation ceremony ahead of the holy month of Ramadan would be held on Friday this year.
The Ministry said just like every year, any individual who had seen the moon should give his/her statement in front of a judge at a court in the Greater Male' area.
It said for inhabitants living in the Atolls, the statement should be given in front of the magistrate and if a magistrate is not present, then the statement can be given to the highest official at the island council.
Those who give statements on moon sightings must include the height of the moon and the direction of the moon. Any individual who has seen the moon should inform the relevant authorities as soon as possible.
According to the calendar, this year the first of Ramdan falls next Saturday.
Ramadan always begins following the sighting of the crescent moon, which generally appears one night after the new moon.
