The Maldives and India have agreed to recognize the COVID vaccination cards issued by each country's relevant authorities as the neighbors look to boost travel between the countries.

This came about after both countries signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday in Addu City of Maldives.

At the ceremony held yesterday, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem and High Commissioner Munu Mahawar exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Health of the Maldives, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, of India for Reciprocal Recognition of COVID Vaccination Certificate.

The Foreign Ministry said that this MoU will facilitate recognition of the Indian COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate issued through the utilization of the CoWIN platform and the Maldivian COVID-19 Digital Certificate issued via ‘https://covidsafe.gov.mv'.

The MoU signing was witnessed by both the Foreign Ministers of the countries as Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar is on an official trip to the Maldives on the invitation from his Maldivian counterpart Abdullah Shaheed.
