Parliament's minority leader MP for Eydhafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem says President Ibrahim Mohamed's presidential address given last month did not reflect the true situation in the country.

In the opposition's rebuttal to the presidential address, MP Saleem said that such an address should reflect the realities the country is currently facing and described President Solih's address as a 'political' address.

Further criticizing the address, MP Saleem noted that it lacked focus and consisted of unrealistic promises.

MP Saleem further said that the government had failed to take appropriate action against those who mock Islam and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) as they are still holding top positions.

He also said that individuals who have acted against the sanctity of mosques are still living within the society.

MP Saleem said the President's address did not highlight any of these issues and this shows that the current administration is doing nothing to safeguard the religion.

President Solih's address to the parliament last month highlighted key achievements in several areas as well as promised different pledges mainly for housing, higher education, and the business sector.

President Solih also promised higher pay for teachers and said that it would come into effect later this year.
