Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the number of active cases of COVID-19 currently in the country has now dropped to less than 15,000 amid a steady decline in cases.
This comes after the Agency reported another 1,030 new cases of COVID-19 in the country after it had tested 4,451 samples in the last 24 hours.
HPA said that out of the new cases, only 187 were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area and that the bulk of the cases was reported from the inhabited islands. It said that this includes 716 cases reported from inhabited islands and another 67 cases confirmed from operational resorts.
The Agency is still confirming the locations of 60 cases reported yesterday.
The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the Maldives since March 2020 to 159,061.
HPA had said that out of these, 142,849 have now recovered from the illness, leaving 15,910 active cases of the pandemic in the country.
The Agency further confirmed that the number of hospitalized COVID patients has also dropped down to 31.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 289 people in the Maldives since April 2020. HPA had also said that the total number of cases includes 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
