Police say that although two of its officers have traveled to Sri Lanka following the discovery of the dead body of a Maldivian youth on a beach in Lanka, Maldivian police won't take part in the investigations into his death.

The 23-year-old student from Dhaalu Meedhoo, Afham Naseer was found dead on the beach near the Dehiwala railway on Saturday after his family had reported him missing since Friday.

A police media official spoke to "The Press" about the matter and said that Lankan police are currently investigating Afham's death. The Official also said that the two police officers would work with the Sri Lankan authorities to find out what happened to the youth leading to his death.

The Police official also said that the police duo would offer their assistance to the victim's family.

Yesterday, Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed had said that the Maldivian police were working together with the Sri Lankan police agency. He also said that a top officer at the Crime Investigative Command and an investigator had headed to Sri Lanka to aid in the investigation.

Hameed had also said that the police were working closely with the family of the victim.

The circumstances surrounding Afham's death remain unclear as his body was found with injuries.
