Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that more than 87,600 people in the Maldives are now fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Agency had earlier this month revised its definition of 'Fully Vaccinated' to include the booster dose of the vaccine as well as the first and second dose of the vaccine.

Authorities are currently administering all three doses of the vaccine to the public.

HPA data revealed that 87,676 people have now received the booster dose in the country. Authorities in the Maldives are administering the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose and individuals who had completed six months after their 2nd dose are only eligible for the third dose.

HPA also said that a total of 397,761 people in the Maldives have now received the first dose of the vaccine and that out of that 370,087 people have now received the 2nd dose of the vaccine.

The Agency had previously promising taking measures against those who evade their booster doses even after they become eligible for the third shot.

But recently it had revised its quarantine rules saying that fully vaccinated (two doses and the booster dose) direct contacts of the positive patient does not have to stay under quarantine if they are not showing any symptoms of the illness.
