MDP candidate Mohamed Rashid has retained the Komandoo parliament seat for MDP with a convincing victory in the by-election held for the vacant seat today.
With the majority of the ballot boxes now counted, Rashid had received a total of 1,121 votes so far and PPM's Moosa Fathuhee who was Rashad's closest competitor received 919 votes.
Newly formed Maldives National Party MNP had also fielded a candidate in the election and Abdul Hannan Idrees had received 235 votes.
One box is yet to be counted.
The Elections Commission had said that it would announce the final result of the election on the 10th of this month.
The latest figures by the Commission showed that 2,313 out of the 3,309 eligible voters had cast their ballots in today's election. This amounts to a voter turnout of 70 percent, although the elections commission is yet to confirm this figure.
