Sri Lankan authorities have made travel insurance a must for those visiting the country as per its new COVID travel rules. This was also confirmed by the Maldivian Foreign Ministry in an announcement yesterday.
As per 2022 COVID-19 entry requirements in Sri Lanka, travelers heading to Sri Lanka will need to purchase mandatory travel insurance.
The insurance costs just USD 12 for one month of cover up to the value of USD 50,000 and must be activated on or before the traveler’s arrival date.
Sri Lankan authorities had also instructed travelers to acquire an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or a visa in order to enter the country.
Meanwhile, fully vaccinated travelers are not required to stay in quarantine when they are in Sri Lanka.
But travelers who remain unvaccinated or have not completed their vaccinations must have a confirmed booking at a Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure Certified’ hotel for up to 8 days.
Another new rule is the Online Health Declaration form that has to be filled out before travelers visit the island nation.
Officials have said that they will have to upload their vaccination documents and Covid-19 test result, before being given a QR code that will be scanned upon arrival into the country.
As for entry requirements, all travelers heading to Sri Lanka must have a negative Covid-19 PCR test result within 72 hours or a Rapid Antigen Test report within 48 hours prior to embarkation.
Children below the age of 12 years old are exempt from this requirement, while Covid-19 self-tests are not accepted.
Unvaccinated travelers will also need to take a test on Day 1 of their time in the country.
