The opposition PPM has filed a complaint at the Elections Commission accusing MDP of voter influence as voting begins in the Komandoo By-election.
PPM said that MDP is trying to influence voters by handing out cash near the ballot boxes kept in Male' for the by-election. It said that MDP was handing out cash from Maafannu Onix, just in front of Iskandhar School where the ballot boxes have been kept and that they have now brought the issue to EC's attention by filing a complaint.
PPM also said that the candidate competing for MDP had been seen campaigning near the ballot box in Foakaidhoo and that it had brought this issue to the EC as well.
Several members of the public present at Iskandhar school had said to 'The Press' that some had handed cash earlier today and that Police present at the area had put a stop to it.
Reports from 'The Press' are currently at the scene and have said that there was tension between the supporters of MDP and PPM as voting continues.
The Elections Commission is yet to comment on the accusations by the opposition and nor has MDP given any statements on the matter.
