Voting in the Komandoo By-election has begun earlier today across the Maldives as major political parties in the country look to secure a seat in the parliament.

Elections Commission has said that 3,309 are eligible to vote in today's election.

Voting had begun at 7 am today in Shaviyani Atoll Komandoo, Maroshi, and Foakaidhooo of the Komandoo constituency.

Voting is also underway at the ballot boxes kept in Male' for voters living in the Greater Male' Area. A total of 1,300 people are eligible to cast their votes in the ballot boxes kept in Male'.

The latest news reports state that all three candidates competing in the by-election have now cast their votes.

All three major political parties have fielded candidates for the upcoming by-election for the Komandoo constituency.

While Moosa Fathuhee would be representing the opposition PPM, MNP's Abdul Hannan Idrees is vying for the seat with Mohamed Rashid looking to retain the seat for MDP.

The Elections Commission was forced to table the by-election after the MP for Komandoo constituency late Hussain Waheed passed away in December after battling cancer.
