Authorities in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo have implemented a curfew on the island amid an increase in reported cases of COVID-19.
The island had been placed under monitoring and a curfew was implemented before due to the spike in COVID cases.
This time around, Thinadhoo was placed under monitoring on the 23rd of this month. Officials have confirmed that currently there are 161 active cases of COVID-19 on the southern island.
An announcement by the island council issued today said that a curfew would be implemented on the island from 09:00 pm to 04:00 am and that pedestrians and vehicles were banned during curfew hours.
The council also ordered universities and colleges to stop physical classes for students.
Other measures taken on the island include;
- Stopping house visits
- Going outside unless necessary
- Ban events, parties, and other gatherings
- Gatherings of more than 3 people outside
- Closing down salons and gyms
- Stopping sports activities as well as group sports events
- Stores must abide by HPA guidelines when giving services
- Offices that have shift duties must minimize the number of employees on shifts
- Following HPA guidelines when traveling to islands for essential services
- Taxis must follow HPA guidelines for the pandemic
The council had also mentioned special guidelines for fishing vessels and have they have been notified to inform the hospital in case of an outbreak on the vessels.
