Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that there are more than 11,500 active cases of COVID-19 in the country as fights off another wave of the pandemic.
The Agency said that it had confirmed 1,697 COVID cases on Friday and that this includes 677 new cases from the Greater Male' Area alone. HPA said that the positivity rate at the capital is now at 21 percent.
HPA also said that it had confirmed 680 new cases from the inhabited islands and 60 from operational resorts. HPA said that it is yet to determine the location of 280 new cases reported yesterday.
The new cases take the total positive cases reported in the island nation to a staggering 112,628.
HPA said that there are currently 11,535 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 49 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
A total of 100,811 people have now recovered from the illness.
The COVID pandemic has killed 269 people in the Maldives with most of the recent deaths coming from the Atolls.
HPA had also said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
