Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the dramatic rise in daily COVID cases has taken the active cases in the country above 4,600.

HPA said yesterday that while 5,513 samples were tested for COVID in the last 24 hours, 536 came back with a positive result for the pandemic.

HPA said out of these cases, 267 were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area where the positivity rate is currently at 9 percent.

The Agency further said that 158 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands and that 83 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts.

HPA also said that it is yet to determine the locations of 28 confirmed cases yesterday.

The new cases take the total number of cases to a staggering 99,635 since March 2020.

HPA confirmed that there are currently 4,656 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that the number of hospitalized COVID patients is currently at 21.

The Agency had reported that a total of 94,702 people have now recovered from the illness.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 264 individuals in the Maldives with mostly elderly locals succumbing to the illness in the country.
