Former President Abdullah Yameen has said that during his tenure his government gave the highest priority to foster relations with vital international partners.
Speaking on a program aired by Channel 13, Yameen denied accusations that the Maldives had been isolated from the international community during his five-year tenure and said that he focused on building relationships that were beneficial to the Maldives.
Yameen took the example of relations between the OIC countries and the Maldives to prove his point.
Talking further on the matter, the ex-President conceded that during his administration the relations between the Maldives and European countries as well as the United States had declined and that there were reasons for the decline.
In his interview, Yameen pointed out that the current administration was fostering relations with certain nations for just a name and questioned how relationships with some countries can be beneficial to the country.
Yameen criticized how the government was developing diplomatic relations with other nations and claimed that the current government was heavily biased.
He added that his government worked to mold its foreign policy in a manner that would be most beneficial to the country and that it acted that way as well.
