MP for Maduvaree Constituency and Vice President of PNC Adam Shareef Umar has accused the government of influencing the Komandoo Bi-election scheduled for next February.

The Elections Commission tabled the Bi-Election for the Constituency after the MP fulfilling the seat Hussain Waheed passed away earlier this month after battling cancer.

While all the major political parties have announced their intention of competing for the Bi-election, the opposition has decided to field former President of Shaviyani Atoll council Moosa Fathuhee as its candidate.

Members of parliament representing the opposition coalition and other opposition figures are currently visiting the islands within the constituency to garner support for the candidate.

MP Shareef said via Twitter that the government was attempting to influence the Komandhoo Bi-election. He accused the government of forming different posts at Fenaka Corporation and 'giving away' these posts in return for votes.

Shareef said that the Bi-election would not be fair and called on the elections commission to investigate these claims.

Fenaka Corporation had been unavailable for a comment on the matter.
