The government has allocated around 4,000 land plots from Gulheefalhu and Hulhumale to Male' citizens.
This was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the signing ceremony of water and sewerage projects for 23 islands that previously lacked these services.
Speaking at the event, President Solih said that while the government is working to provide the essential needs of the public, one of the main issues that need is a solution is the lack of housing for the citizens of Male'.
President said members of the public, as well as political figures, are speaking about the issue, and the government has been listening to these concerns wherever the source.
He said that the government would work to achieve this and that the government had not planned to give just 1,000 land plots to the citizens of the capital but would give four times more than that.
President Solih went on to say that government would award these land plots from Hulhumale' as well as Gulheefalhu and other lagoons too.
He added that the government is overseeing the development of 5,000 housing units under the Vinares project for the same purpose.
