President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has confirmed the government’s decision to extend the deferment of rent on the Hiya flats for an additional three months, until the end of March.

He made the announcement at the ceremony held to mark the Unity Day 2021 last night.

The government's decision came as flat owners had urged authorities to extend the grace period given for the flats which were due to end this December and the first rents due in January.

In his speech, President Solih recognized the plight of the Hiya flat owners and announced the government’s decision to extend the deferment of rent on the flats for an additional three months, until the end of March.

He said that the decision would address some of the flat owners' immediate concerns.

Additionally, President Solih expressed hope that the renovation work could be completed and residents settled in by March 2022.
