President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has recalled the virtues, invaluable contributions to national development, and devotion to preserving the national unity of the late Umar Zahir.

Umar Zahir, a state dignitary, and honouree of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin had passed away earlier this month due to the COVID-19 illness. He was 85.

Addressing the nation at a function held on the occasion of National Unity Day, President Solih described the late Umar Zahir as an inspiration for all in fostering national unity and spoke in-depth about his invaluable contributions to the nation.

President Solih went on to hail the late Umar Zahir as a cornerstone of the modern infrastructural development we see and reap the benefits of today.

President Solih also spoke about celebrating the many contributions and national service of the late Umar Zahir.

Last night's function featured a special video report on the exemplary life of the late Umar Zahir. President Solih was accompanied at the function by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Vice President Faisal Naseem, and other senior government officials.
