Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now surpassed 94,000.

HPA reported an additional 100 new cases on Monday and said that these include 51 new cases from the inhabited islands.

HPA also said that 22 samples out of 1,081 tested from the Greater Male' Area also tested positive for COVID-19 and that the positivity rate in the capital remains at 2 percent.

The Agency added that 27 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts in the country.

Monday's cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to a staggering 94,057.

HPA said that currently there are 1,952 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 12 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency said that 91,832 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 260 in the Maldives with the latest pandemic death coming yesterday when 85-year-old respected statesman Umar Zahir succumbed to the illness.
