Health Protection Agency HPA says it is readying itself to begin administering the COVID-19 booster dose to the general population.
Authorities in the Maldives had begun administering a dose of the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose for Maldivians earlier this year and HPA confirmed yesterday that the Maldives had now received an additional 100,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
HPA said today that even though it has begun preparations to start administering the booster dose to the general public, it can only begin once it can secure the syringes required to administer the Pfizer vaccine.
The Agency said that right now there was a global shortage of syringes and that it was working to secure a shipment of syringes.
HPA had also said it would announce when it would begin giving the booster dose to the general population once all the preparations are in place.
HPA had said that the booster dose is given to those who meet the eligibility criteria which includes having completed 6 months after receiving the 2nd dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (Covisheild/Astrazeneca, Sinopharm, Pfizer).
The Agency had said on Friday that more than 22,000 people in the Maldives have now received the booster dose with all above 50 now eligible for the 3rd COVID vaccine dose.
