The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives has dismissed accusations that it was sponsoring the opposition's 'India Out' campaign that calls for the withdrawal of Indian troops stationed in the Maldives.

This comes after activists from the Government coalition shared a picture of opposition supporters standing outside the Chinese Embassy in Male wearing T.Shirts and waving flags with the 'India Out' logo. The activists shared a message with the picture saying that it was clear from where the sponsor for the 'India Out' campaign was coming from and that the picture was self-explanatory.

In a reply to these twitter posts, the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives tweeted saying that it would like to emphasize that China would always follow the principle of non-interference into the internal affairs of other countries.

The Embassy added that it is here to promote friendship and cooperation with the Maldives.

The accusations from government-affiliated activists came as the social media debate about the 'India Out' campaign heated up after opposition leader and former President Abdullah Yameen visited two islands in Kaafu Atoll to promote the camping.

On Thursday, Yameen visited Kaafu Guraidhoo while on Friday the ex-President traveled to Thulusdhoo of the same Atoll.
