Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 162 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday.
HPA said that out of the new cases, 118 new cases were reported from inhabited islands while another 29 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area.
The Agency also said that 15 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts across the country.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to a staggering 93,532.
HPA had also said that there are currently 2,009 active cases of the illness in the country with 23 COVID patients currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency confirmed that 91,252 people have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The Global pandemic has killed 259 people in the country since April 2020 with the latest COVID death coming yesterday after a 62-year-old local man brought to Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital was declared dead due to the illness.
Although the country is reporting a steady number of COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks, authorities are braced for more cases as they confirmed 4 more cases of the new COVID variant in the country yesterday.
HPA had said that all four came from tourists who had tested positive for COVID-19 and that they are currently compiling risk assessments for the omicron cases.
