Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says expired vaccines had not been used in the COVID vaccination program.

She said after a reporter questioned whether COVID vaccinations passed their expiry date had been used in islands during the COVID vaccination program.

Dr. Nazla said expired vaccines would not be used in the program and that World Health Organization WHO had extended the expiry dates given on the vials currently in use by 3 months.

Authorities in the Maldives are administering a dose of the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose.

Health Protection Agency HPA had said yesterday that a total of 16,513 people in the Maldives have now received the booster dose with all above 50 now eligible for the 3rd COVID vaccine dose.

Meanwhile, HPA revealed that a total of 396,004 people in the Maldives has now received the first dose of the COVID vaccine.

HPA said that out of this 364,814 people have now received the 2nd dose of the vaccine and are fully vaccinated against the pandemic.
