The government has yet again extended the State of Public Health Emergency for an additional month amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the 21st time the government has extended the State of Public Health Emergency in the country which was initially declared back in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
In a declaration issued by the Health Ministry, the government extended the State of Public Health Emergency period till the 30th of this month.
Health Minister Ahmed Naseem signed the declaration today.
The extension was ordered by the powers vested to the Health Minister under Section 33 of the Public Health Protection Act.
The declaration instructed the Director of Public Health to continue to implement measures to safeguard the public against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new extension comes as the Maldives enjoy a subdued period of relative calm in its fight against the pandemic. Although authorities had been reporting a steady number of daily cases, a spike in infections has not been noted in the country for some time.
But Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious of the pandemic that still looms with a new variant now on the horizon.
