Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 165 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Friday.

HPA said out of the new cases 121 were confirmed from the inhabited islands while 25 new cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area where the positivity rate remains at 1 percent.

HPA also reported 19 cases from the operational resorts.

Friday's cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 89,529.

The Agency said that there are currently 2,170 active cases of the pandemic in the country with 15 COVID patients currently hospitalized for further treatment.

More than 87,000 people have recovered from the pandemic in the country.

HPA had confirmed that 247 people have died due to the global pandemic in the Maldives and that these include mostly elderly individuals with underlying health issues.

The Agency had also said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
