Maldives Democratic Party MDP, which holds the majority power on the current coalition government, is holding its internal elections today across the country.

Voting began at 09:00 am today for the elections and is set to continue till 05:00 pm in the evening. The party had said that individuals who wish to file complaints about the voting are welcome to do so during the voting.

The party had said that 735 members of MDP are competing for 455 party posts currently available in the party.

These include Presidents and Vice Presidents of constituencies, provinces, and cities while the election would also fill posts of secretaries, deputies, and media secretaries of these constituencies, provinces, and cities.

The party has set up around 300 ballot boxes for its internal election.

MDP had also said that 93,000 people are eligible to vote in the elections.

It had announced recently that its internal voting would not be conducted in Thaa Atoll Guraidhoo today because of the COVID-19 situation on the island.

MDP said that it would later announce when the internal election would be held in Guaraidhoo.
