Education Ministry says the servers at the Department of Public Examinations were targeted by a ransomware attack this week but the attack was thwarted and the hackers were unsuccessful.
The Ministry said that the servers at DPE came under attack yesterday but they were never in the control of the hackers.
It said that IT staff at the ministry were immediately aware of the ransomware attack and had implemented contingencies measures as soon as they can.
The Ministry also said that none of the department's systems were compromised and that all the files remained intact and safe from the attack.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Examinations DPE said today that it had halted releasing the results of the Teacher Based Assessment of the Higher Secondary Certificate HSC students who sat for the exams in June because of a problem with its server system.
DPE said that the server system was done since the 21st of this month and that certain work related to the system was now on hold.
It also said that the department was now working to rectify the issues with the server system and that it can only release the HCS results once the server system problem is solved.
