Health Protection Agency HPA says more than 84,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Maldives since March 2020 when the pandemic was first discovered in the country.

HPA said last night that another 142 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and that this includes 88 cases from the inhabited islands.

HPA also said that another 42 tested positive for the illness from the Greater Male' Area while 12 new cases were reported from operational resorts across the country.

The Agency noted that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country has now reached 84,017.

HPA mentioned that 162 people had recovered from the illness on Wednesday and that this take the total number of recoveries to a promising 82,101.

The Health Protection Agency said that there are 1,674 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that out of those 20 remained hospitalized for further treatment.

HPA had confirmed the death of 229 individuals who had succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives. Most of those who died from COVID-19 include elderly locals with underlying health issues.

The Agency had also said that the total number of cases includes 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
