Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has expressed concerns over the comments made by opposition PNC's leader Abdul Raheem regarding India.
Raheem had made the comments while addressing last night's opposition rally attended by many of its supporters in the Greater Male' Area.
He had called on India to take back its Dornier airplane donated to the Maldives and as well as withdraw their troop currently deployed in the Maldives.
Abdul Raheem had also said that locals should be aware of the Indians coming over for the Thilafushi bridge project. He insinuated that they would take away Maldivian homes and also take away Maldivian women's innocence.
Highlighting his concern via Twitter, Speaker Nasheed said that it is highly alarming that neighboring countries are ridiculed and mocked during opposition rallies.
Nasheed said that India has always been the country's most helpful ally. He also pointed out that India plays the most important role in maintaining stability and peace in the Indian Ocean region.
The relationship between India and the Maldives had soared to new heights since the current administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took over.
But the opposition had always maintained that India's hold over the Maldives is harmful to the country's sovereignty and independence.
