Chairperson of Maldives Technical Advisory Group on Immunization Dr. Ahmed Faisal says authorities would complete administering the first dose of the COVID vaccine to all eligible students in the Greater Male' Area today.

Dr. Faisal said this in a tweet.

But the Education Ministry refrained from confirming his comment and said that according to the schedule the vaccination program would reach its halfway mark in the capital city today but would know more later in the day.

The Ministry confirmed that a total of 25,404 students have now received the first dose of the COVID vaccine across the country. It added that students from 162 schools in the country are now taking part in the vaccination program.

The Ministry had said ealirer that 35,000 students between the ages of 12 and 17 are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives.

Authorities in the Maldives are administering the US-manufactured Pfizer vaccine in its student vaccination program that kicked off earlier this month.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had recently announced that the state has successfully acquired enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize all children in the Maldives between the ages of 12 and 17 years.
