Police say the man arrested for threatening the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on social media has been remanded in custody for another 15 days by the court.
Police had initially arrested the man from Raa Atoll Meedhoo after he had commented on a Facebook post threatening bodily harm against the former President if Nasheed returned back to the country.
Police had said today that his remand hearing was held at Raa Ungoofaaru Magistrate Court and that the Court had sentenced that he be kept under custody for another 15 days.
Police had also said that while at the hearing, the suspect had acted in contempt of the Court and that the Court had given him a 15-day jail sentence for the offense.
The 40-year-old was arrested after threatening the Speaker in a series of Facebook Comments, where the suspect had also referred to the May 6th attack against the former President.
Nasheed is still recuperating from the near-fatal attack against his person and is currently residing in the UK. He was set to return to the Maldives next month but had recently requested a leave extension from the parliament.
Nasheed had said he and his family along with his supporters do not feel safe unless those behind the attack are sentenced. The State has charged four suspects arrested in connection with the case with a range of terrorism related offenses
