Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 152 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Monday.
HPA said yesterday that out of the new cases 83 were reported from the inhabited islands and that 29 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area.
The Agency said that it had confirmed another 40 cases from operational resorts across the country.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases to a staggering 79,289 in the Maldives since March 2020.
HPA had said that currently there are 1,682 active cases of the illness with 77,373 recoveries. The Agency had said that 17 people remained hospitalized for further treatment after contracting the fast-spreading infection.
The pandemic has killed 222 people in the Maldives including both locals and foreigners.
Most of the locals who have died are elderly individuals with underlying medical issues. Although, several young people including a 10-year-old girl had succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives.
HPA had said that out of the total number of cases there are 12 deceased positives whose causes of death are not related to COVID-19.
