Chairperson of Maldives Technical Advisory Group on Immunization and pediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal says more than 900 children between the ages of 12 to 17 have now been given the first dose of the COVID vaccine on the first day of the student vaccination program.
The government had kicked off its student vaccination program yesterday across the country with inoculation starting at 19 schools.
In a tweet, Dr. Faisal said that more than 900 students have received the first dose of the vaccine yesterday and that their bodies would now begin their defense against the COVID-19 illness.
Dr. Faisal added that there were no reports of any adverse side effects reported on Sunday.
Authorities in the Maldives are administering the US-manufactured Pfizer vaccine in its student vaccination program.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had recently announced that the state has successfully acquired enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize all children in the Maldives between the ages of 12 and 17 years.
The Education Ministry had said that more than 35,000 students in the country are eligible for the COVID vaccination.
