Police say they have begun an investigation in a case of child abuse against a mother for physically harm her child on an island in Northern Maldives.
Police said that the initial reports of the abuse were filed on the 14th of this month. Police said that they were working with the Gender Ministry to further investigate the case.
It is unclear the age of the victim or the mother.
But reports have said that the mother had previously abused another child and that the State had taken custody of that child.
Meanwhile, Child and Family Protection Services said in a tweet that it had received a report of a mother physically harming her children on a northern island.
It said that following the reports, the family and children's service center in the Atoll along with the Police have worked to ensure the safety of children in concern.
It added that the children had since been moved to a safe location.
