President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says the aim is to give the first dose of the COVID vaccine to all the students above 12 years this month.
He revealed this while speaking at a special assembly held at Rehendi school earlier today to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
President Solih said that authorities are working to vaccinate all the students between the ages of 12 and 17.
He said that the government is aiming to give the first dose of the COVID vaccine to all the students above 12 years of age before the end of August.
The President urged parents to give their full support to the government to achieve this goal.
Speaking at the special assembly in Hulhumalé, President Solih counseled parents, teachers, and students to carefully follow all Covid-19 control measures and to work together to maintain the momentum established in curbing the Covid-19 virus in the country.
He recognized that many children had been disappointed since they were not permitted to physically attend school during the previous academic year due to the pandemic, and advised pupils to make the most of this opportunity with a positive outlook.
The President wished all students a successful, pleasant, and productive academic year.
He encouraged students to strive to overcome any obstacles to learning and endeavor to become productive members of society and to make their parents and family happy and proud.
